Samsung N150 10.1-Inch Netbook (Blue) Review
First - this was a replacement for an older laptop that quit letting me on the internet. Second - the extent of my research was to read the reviews on the netbooks available on Amazon because I wanted something reasonably priced quickly.
That said - thankfully the reviews gave me enough of an idea of what to expect and this has definitely met my expectations.
Because I bought refurbished the setup was much easier than it seemed to be for others. The longest part was re-installing my virus protection. The directions on assembling are equally useless in all three hundred and sixty eight languages they are written in as far as I can tell, but luckily it simply wasn't difficult to put (all four) pieces together.
If, like me, you are simply looking for something to connect to the internet let me give you an idea of what you're getting - the actual machine looks like the offspring of my old laptop and my kindle. Ten inch screen didn't mean a lot to me until I saw the actual box it came in. It's TINY. Smaller than a sheet of notebook paper by about an inch and a half. Which is fine for me, I wanted something portable but bigger than an iPod touch (and less expensive than an iPad).
It's not as "solid" feeling as more expensive computers/electronics - I don't anticipate it lasting more than two years, if that, but you get what you pay for.
I have small hands and I find the keyboard to be a little cramped. If you have large hands you might want to consider different technology. For those of us with smaller hands it's fine but given the pratfalls of aging I wouldn't want to type an entire document on it. Thankfully that's not why I got it :)
It's not lightning fast but it's not terribly slow either. It doesn't seem to like to do more than one thing at a time but recovery (CTRL ALT DEL) takes less time too.
It seemed to charge quickly (less than an hour and it claimed to have a full charge) but I haven't tested the battery life. Like most portable computers today it dimmed when I unplugged it. Given the size I think it would be quite difficult to read unplugged. But then again these are probably designed for younger eyes and hands :)
I found the track pad and the buttons easy to use but I will still probably rely on my mouse if I'm at a table. But they are much easier to use than my previous three laptops. The track pad isn't ridiculously loose and the buttons require effort to push - which means that at least for me I wasn't accidentally in the wrong part of the screen or clicking on the wrong thing.
The best part to me is the incredible lightness of the device. I can see carrying this with me and not worrying about having to "lug" it around like I did my old laptop. Now I understand why people are willing to sacrifice some performance and solidity for size. I look forward to using it and will update this as things occur, good or bad.
