Gateway LT2106u 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - Over 8 Hours of Battery Life

Gateway LT2106u 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - Over 8 Hours of Battery Life Review

My wife first had the LT2104u for a couple of months and loved it. She was using it every spare minute. She used it for grade posting (she's a teacher) and Facebook. I prefer a desktop; but needed a small (very portable model) for work and as a result of her satisfaction; I decided to get one also. That's where the LT2108u for this review comes in. We ordered it in red, as that was the color my wife wanted from the beginning (the LT2104u is black). Thus she has constantly used and loved her red LT2108u and I am satisfied with the black LT2104u as they are both essentially the same. The price is the same for both as are all the specs (including the processor), except the hard drive. The LT2108u (as concerning this review) has a 160 GB sata hard drive where as the LT2104u has a 250 GB hard drive. Otherwise, I could find no difference. I've had only two complaints. The first is that occasionally, they both get stuck on start up with the words "Preparing your Desktop". You can either restart it or wait a while. If you wait, it will finally open using a "Guest" user; so you will still have to "log off" and "on" again. That may be a fault of "Windows 7 Starter" which is the operating system they use. You should know that this is not the full version of Windows 7. It's basically sufficient; but with less options such as changing the desktop background and other things. Nontheless, there are free programs and other ways to get those things done. It's just something you should realize. The second complaint is that the speakers are not really loud enough. Some videos will play loud enough if the room is not too noisy; however, a video that itself is poorly recorded (concerning the sound),you will find yourself holding the speaker against your ear trying to hear. I bought each of us a .00 set of head phones at Walmart and solved the problem. I have watched a few movies with them and the sound is great. There are adjustments for the display if the type is too small or the the screen is too dim or too bright; or the cursor is too slow, etc (this info added for those not overly familiar with computers). Neither of my two complaints would keep me from getting another if the need arose or from recommending either one; but I would mention it as I did here, in case they are more serious to someone else. All in all, for the money, they seem to be well built, sturdy, responsive enough, etc and although we've only had one for 4 months and one for 2 months; so far, I'm quite satisfied. Oh yeah, They are made by Acer.
